Earlier this month, Texas CASA hosted the second Volunteer Power Unleashed Summit, an event unlike any other because it is catered specifically for volunteer recruiters. Recruiters from across the state and a group from North Carolina came together to learn new approaches to recruitment and share best practices from their own programs.
The theme of this year’s event was “Together We Can. Together We Will.” – because we are first and foremost a network, and in order to achieve our goal of a CASA for every child it will take all of us working together. The event also explored the power of words, and featured poets onsite at the welcome reception who both recited original pieces and created an entirely new piece based on statements provided by the attendees.
The next day, attendees rotated through six hot topics that covered new and innovative approaches to recruiting a diverse pool of CASA volunteers, including an overview of DFPS’ work to further faith-based recruitment. Texas CASA, in partnership with DFPS and local CASA programs, is in the early phases of creating a CASA-specific resource guide to assist with faith-based recruitment. Following the hot topics, keynote speaker Wendy Biro-Pollard discussed current trends in community and volunteer engagement.
Additionally, attendees walked away with several resources, including the newly released volunteer recruitment guidebook – The Art of Recruitment: Engaging Volunteers Who Own Your Mission.
Check out highlights from the event below. Thank you to everyone who traveled from across Texas and North Carolina to be a part of the event, and a special thank you to our sponsor, RBFCU!
