On April 10, Texas CASA brought together CASA programs and faith leaders from communities all around the state for a “Clergy, CASA & Community” meeting to explore the possibilities of partnering to safeguard permanency for children in foster care. Working to better understand how we can align the purpose of CASA with the mission and ministry of the church, the group had deep discussions on the hopes, fears and challenges around this important work.
Whether their goals have been to procure more foster families or to donate money, goods, services, or time, each organization in attendance is already connecting with children’s causes and engaging with communities to support children and families. In fact, we learned that two pastors are already serving as advocates. Making these connections has put us on the path to recruiting more advocates to speak up for children in the Texas foster care system.
Thank you to all in attendance for your willingness to do the work necessary to help our most vulnerable children find permanency!
