The Senate Health and Human Services (HHS) Committee held their last interim hearing Wednesday, Sept. 12. The committee discussed CPS-related charges including efforts to improve child safety, caseworker retention, building caregiver capacity, and the transition of case management of foster children and families to single source continuum contractors (SSCCs). Legislators met with DFPS leadership and SSCC executives from Region 3b to discuss the charges and provide an update on the implementation of Community Based Care. Texas CASA Public Policy Coordinator Sarah Crockett submitted written testimony supporting funding for DFPS to develop an online placement portal to improve placement decisions and increase placement stability for children in care.
