In everything we do, CASA is committed to protecting the best interests of all children – and the reality is that a disproportionately high number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) children and youth are in the child welfare system, many having been abandoned by their families due to their LGBTQ identity.
CASA can help ensure these children are safe and able to embrace every aspect of their identity while in care. We envision a safe, positive future for all Texas children – and we hope you will join us in making this vision a reality by continuing to educate ourselves on how to best advocate for and work with LGBTQ youth and families.
Maryville University has developed an online Guide for LGBTQ+ Students that contains a wide variety of resources covering:
- Anti-bullying and creating safe schools,
- Sexual assault/discrimination,
- How to find LGBTQ-supportive providers,
- How to be a good ally, and much more.
Texas CASA is committed to our goal of ensuring the highest quality advocacy possible for all children in the child protection system, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, or disability status – that’s why we are highlighting resources to support the CASA network’s journey to becoming more inclusive, welcoming, affirming and culturally considerate.
