As we jump into the 86th Legislative Session, Texas CASA’s Public Policy team has been meeting with Legislative Advocacy Teams (LATs) to discuss CASA policy and funding priorities.
On Wednesday, Jan. 16, CASA of Travis County held a meeting to discuss legislative issues. Texas CASA Public Policy Executive Director Andy Homer and Policy Fellow Bryan Mares led the group in a discussion about funding needs and legislation that has been filed or is in the process of being filed on important issues like youth transitioning into adulthood, Collaborative Family Engagement, substance use and trauma-informed care. On Jan. 17, the Public Policy team met with a group from CASA of the Brazos Valley to have a similar discussion during one of the monthly lunch and learn gatherings the program holds for volunteers and staff.
Also, the Waco news did a wonderful piece on CASA legislative priorities. John Moorman with CASA of McClennan County spoke about the work of CASA as well as our funding needs for the next biennium. Watch the interview.
