The House Appropriations Committee voted out HB 1, the state budget bill, by a 25-1 vote on Monday, March 18. The bill includes the additional $2.25 million in annual funding that Texas CASA requested on behalf of the CASA network. HB 1 increases appropriated state funding for CASA from approximately $13.25 million to nearly $15.5 million annually.
The requested additional funding is to support the anticipated growth in volunteers and children served during the 2020-2021 biennium, as well as to continue improving the quality of CASA advocacy for children and families. The full House is expected to consider HB 1 on the floor beginning on Wednesday, March 27. The Senate Finance Committee is continuing to deliberate funding issues.
