Take Advantage of National Foster Care Month Resources

May is National Foster Care Month, and the theme this year is “Foster Care as a Support to Families, Not a Substitute for Parents.” This theme is very much in line with Texas CASA and the CASA network’s Collaborative Family Engagement work: better engaging family and other caring adults to create a lifetime network of support for children!

ChildWelfare.gov’s NFCM 2019 resources focus on helping child welfare organizations leverage community partnerships, establish birth-foster parent and cross-system relationships, and implement targeted support services as a means to strengthen overall family well-being. Resources also discuss how these strategies, along with a strong and supportive child welfare workforce, can help the child welfare system act as a support system to the families it serves, promote reunification, and prevent reentry into care.
