The Texas House Human Services committee met on Monday, Nov. 12, for their first time since the end of the 86th Legislative Session. The committee met to discuss implementation of Community-Based Care and the Family First Prevention Services Act. They also reviewed the processes and policies by which the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) investigates and substantiates allegations of abuse or neglect made by medical professionals and the processes and policies followed by child abuse pediatricians, when abuse and/or neglect is suspected. It is expected that the committee will continue to meet and review these child welfare issues over the interim and leading to the next legislative session.
Testimony was limited to invited attorney groups and parents only.
