Texas CASA CEO Vicki Spriggs talks with 19-year-old Hunter Beaton, the Founder & CEO of Day 1 Bags, a fast-growing nonprofit that provides high-quality bags for children entering the foster care system.
When Hunter was 15, he dedicated his Eagle Scout project to helping children in foster care after he saw his foster siblings carrying their belongings in trash bags, grocery bags, or nothing at all. Hunter’s vision has since grown into a statewide program with national partnerships. Since 2016, Hunter’s efforts have provided over 30,000 bags (and counting!) to children transitioning into the foster care system across the country. He is now a freshman at The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Communications & Leadership. His dedication and hard work to help those in need have earned him the Congressional Gold Medal Award and Texas VFW Scout of the Year.
