The very first video we did about Collaborative Family in 2016 featured cartoon bears and balloons to explain why searching for, and including, family members in the foster care and permanency planning process is so important. We’ve come a long from introducing CFE through those bears!
We are excited to release three new explainer videos, with a whole new look and feel, for the legal community, parents and youth.
CFE for the Legal Community
Attorneys, judges and others in the legal community are instrumental to the successful engagement of families and their involvement in family meetings. This video aims to invite attorneys and judges into the CFE process and to welcome their participation. We were thrilled to have Judge Delia Gonzales from Dallas sharing her experience with CFE in her courtroom, and we hope that this is helpful for others in the field.
CFE for Parents
We know that parents of children in the foster care system are the experts on their family and on what their family needs, and we aim to reinforce that message in this video. CASA or CPS are encouraged to share this video with parents to foster their participation, trust and engagement in CFE. This video will soon be available in Spanish also.
CFE for Youth
This video is targeted to youth, age 12 and older. We wanted to explain the purpose of the CFE team, suggest ways that youth could be involved in their case, and help them see and feel the importance of their involvement and communication with the team around them. We worked with a talented animator who created various styles and characters for us to pick from, which we shared with a group of youth for their feedback in the process of making the video. This video is available in Spanish as well.
We have plans to add to the CFE video library in 2021 with the addition of a video for foster parents and a series specifically for facilitators of family meetings.
