Celebrating Happy & Healthy Fatherhood

In honor of Father’s Day on June 20, we asked the dads on our staff to share their reflections on fatherhood by answering this question:

Based on your own experience as a father, what does healthy and happy fatherhood look like to you?

Steve, right, with his father, who passed away in 2005.

Steve Raich, Chief Finance & Administration Officer

Happy and healthy fatherhood is holding on to your kids tight enough to keep them safe, but loose enough that they can become their own person and experience the world around them in their own way. Happy and healthy fatherhood is letting your kids learn hard lessons and then being there to catch them when they fall. Happy and healthy fatherhood is teaching your kids to be tough when it’s called for and teaching them that it’s alright to cry when that’s called for. Happy and healthy fatherhood is instilling in your kids the honor in hard work and the joy in doing nothing. And happy and healthy fatherhood is holding your kids accountable for their actions but loving them unconditionally.

Healthy fatherhood is horseplay. It’s wiping boogers. It’s finding energy when you don’t think you have any left. It’s a gentle guiding hand. It’s safety. It’s a million tiny moments containing all the magic in the universe.

It’s watching a supernova and giving thanks that you get to be part of its story.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers and father figures out there!

Thank you for all you do to love and support children!
