In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Texas CASA has maintained two waivers regarding CASA Standards:
- Virtual visits may substitute for required face to face visits, and
- Virtual training may substitute for required 10 hours of face-to-face training.
We recognize that making any predictions on the course of COVID-19 is very difficult. While the initial duration of the above waivers was through May 2020, Texas CASA has extended the duration of the waivers through June 2021. The Texas CASA Board of Directors will make a determination of any extension beyond June at their meeting on June 25. What will be considered is the need for local CASA programs to have the discretion to determine when they can safely resume activities, as many factors contribute to those decisions that are subject to each different community. The primary consideration will be how to best advocate for the interest of children and families and provide information to the court (fulfill the CASA volunteer’s role) while creating a safe environment for children, families, volunteers and staff.
