CASA volunteers! Have you fulfilled your continuing education requirement for 2021? Wrap up your hours with Texas CASA’s free, user-friendly, online Learning Center!
Our Learning Center is the go-to training platform for CASA volunteers, caseworkers and anyone curious about CASA, effective advocacy and the child welfare system. It features e-learning, toolkits, webinars and more that will aide you in your advocacy for children and youth navigating the foster care system – from how to testify in court, to advocating for healthcare services, to how to best respond to the needs of specific populations, such as immigrant families and LGBTQ+ youth.
Need to brush up on your understanding of the healthcare system? The Health Advocacy Webinar will give you an overview of the mental and physical health services offered by STAR Health, the Medicaid program covering almost all children and youth in foster care. This will help you ensure the children and youth you advocate for are getting all the services they need and deserve.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the Learning Center also offers trainings and resources about how to best maintain connections and keep your advocacy sharp. For example, the Effective CASA Advocacy in a Virtual Environment Webinar teaches you all about best advocacy practices, preparation and participation for virtual CPS court hearings.
Check out our Educational Advocacy Guidebook and Resources to ensure you have all the information you need to identify education-related challenges for children and advocate to overcome them!
