Resource Reminder! Updated Community-Based Care Guide

Texas CASA recently released the second edition of Transforming Together: A Guide to Community-Based Care in Texas to reflect the progress of Community-Based Care (CBC) implementation over the last two years. CBC is Texas’ new way of doing foster care. It is progressing in stages, moving responsibility for foster care placement, case management and services from state of Texas employees to private contractors.

As the new system comes into being, CASA staff and volunteers will be called upon to engage and support a wider range of stakeholders and processes. The most important people to support during the transition, of course, are the children and families we are appointed to advocate for in foster and kinship care. CASA advocates will remain serving as a consistent figure in a child’s life—regardless of changes happening behind the scenes.

In addition to the CBC implementation updates, you will find out how the Texas child welfare system will change as the scope and role of CBC expands. The guide also offers insight into how local CASA programs could be affected by the implementation of CBC.
