Participate in the Red Sand Project for Trafficking Awareness

For January, National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we’re calling on the local CASA programs to join us in participating in the Red Sand Project. The Red Sand Project is a national initiative created by Molly Gochman to bring awareness to human trafficking by pouring red sand into the cracks of sidewalks, parking lots and driveways–raising awareness of survivors who often “fall through the cracks.”

Children and youth in foster care are at an increased risk of trafficking. CASA ACT (Anti-Child Trafficking) is a call to action for the CASA network to do more than “see something, say something,” and to ACT. From identifying children and youth who are at risk, to advocacy, CASA programs and volunteers can ACT. The Red Sand Project is an opportunity for local programs to bring human trafficking awareness to their communities.

Your program can do the Red Sand Project in your office parking lot, at city hall, a community park or another popular destination. You can hold up signs, take photos and shoot video. Check out the CASA ACT+Red Sand Project flyer for full instructions, along with ideas. We encourage you to be creative!

Once your program creates your Red Sand Project, send pictures and videos to casaacts@texascasa.org. Also be sure to share on social media and use the hashtags #RedSandProject and #CASAACT. In January, we will release a statewide compilation. The deadline to participate and be included in our compilation is Jan. 13, 2023.

You can order red sand on the Project website, free of charge. They only ask that you pay for shipping.

If you have any questions, send an email to Texas CASA ACT Consultant Rhonda Kuykendall at casaacts@texascasa.org. Thank you in advance for participating and helping us raise awareness!
