In 2022, members of the Abilene community stepped up alongside Big Country CASA to host the first-ever Foster Care Simulation, “Could You Survive a Month in Foster Care?” This simulation provided invaluable insight into real challenges faced by children in foster care, as well as parents, foster families and related professionals.
This year, the second Foster Care Simulation will be hosted on Wednesday, July 19 in Abilene, TX. The program works by assigning different roles (child, parent, foster parent, support agency) to participants and having them navigate specific challenges. Big Country CASA hopes hands-on events like these will promote brainstorming and community engagement and collaboration, which is a crucial step in working toward solutions in the foster care system.
