April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is a time for communities, families and individuals to increase awareness and provide support to families to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Child Abuse in Texas:

Child abuse and neglect is an ongoing epidemic that has a lasting negative impact on the victims, our society and our economy. There are four basic types of child abuse: neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse. Children being abused are likely to experience more than one type of abuse. Child abuse is a crime of secrecy which, tragically, breeds within our communities because it’s difficult to talk about. That’s why openly discussing this issue is the most effective tool we have to prevent and, eventually, eradicate child abuse. We can change the statistics, but first, we must acknowledge that it exists.

While the numbers are daunting, at CASA we believe that nothing is impossible and that we are all an essential part of the solution. Together, we can help break the cycle of abuse and neglect and give every child the chance they deserve. Join us as we raise awareness all month long – this year we are promoting Healthy Bodies, Minds & Hearts!
