DFPS Announces Stage II of Community-Based Care in Region 3B
In October 2019, the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) announced it had taken steps to expand Community-Based Care (CBC) into Stage II in Region 3B. Region 3B includes Tarrant, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker and Somervell counties. This expansion was done by a contract amendment with Our Communities Our Kids (OCOK), a division of ACH Child and Family Services, which has been serving Region 3B under the CBC model since 2014.
In the first stage of CBC, OCOK provided placement services for children in foster care and shared case management responsibilities with the Department. In Stage II, the contractor will provide all case management services rather than sharing the responsibility with the state. OCOK will also be responsible for providing kinship and reunification services. The focus of Stage II is expanding the continuum of services to include services for families and to improve permanency outcomes for children.
Over the next several months, the Department will work with OCOK to prepare for the transition. Based on OCOK and DFPS readiness, OCOK will assume responsibility for Stage II services in March 2020.
The move to the second stage of CBC in Region 3B marks the first time a Single Source Continuum Contractor has reached this stage.
