On Aug. 3, DFPS awarded a contract to Family Tapestry, a new division of San Antonio Children’s Shelter, to serve as the Community Based Care (CBC) contractor in Region 8A, Bexar County. Under Community Based Care, the state is divided into 17 geographic regions known as catchment areas, and contracts are procured with nonprofit entities to serve as Single Source Continuum Contractors (SSCC) for those regions. SSCCs assume responsibility for serving children and families in their catchment area in a staged fashion, beginning with responsibility for placement in foster care. It is expected that Family Tapestry will begin accepting children under their contract in early 2019.
DFPS has had a CBC contract in Region 3B (Tarrant County and six adjoining counties to the west) since 2014 with OCOK. Earlier this summer, DFPS awarded a contract to 2Ingage to serve as SSCC in Region 2, a 30-county area encompassing Wichita Falls and Abilene. It is expected that 2Ingage will begin serving children around the end of 2018. DFPS is also expected to announce in August two additional catchment areas where Community Based Care will be expanding during FY 2019.
