We are excited to announce that we have converted two in-person sessions of pre-service volunteer training into interactive, immersive e-learning courses that are now available online!
In order to provide a more dynamic option for programs that don’t have the capacity to facilitate all eight sessions of pre-service training in person, we set out to create e-learning courses that cover the same content as the facilitated session while capturing the engaging spirit of the classroom as much as possible. We’re transformed Session Two: The Well-Being of the Child and Session Seven: Educational Advocacy, Older Youth & LGBTQ Youth into comprehensive online courses woven through with videos of CASA staff sharing insights from the field, as well as an interactive case study experience in which actors bring to life the Jessica Brown case from session seven.
These courses are designed to be highly intuitive and user-friendly. Learners are still required to complete the hour-long pre-work reading and activities in both Chapter Two and Chapter Seven of their manual before taking the e-learning courses, so that the courses can build on the concepts in the pre-work material. There’s an easy link to the pre-work at the beginning of both courses in case a learner wants to review any of the pre-work material.
The average learner will take about approximately 120 minutes to complete each course, so the courses can be counted as two hours of pre-service training each (four hours total). Combined with the hour of pre-work learners complete prior to each course, learners complete six hours of pre-service training out of the required 30 hours.
Learners can easily find these courses on our Learning Center by searching “pre-service training,” or you can share these direct links:
- Session Two Online: The Wellbeing of the Child
- Session Seven Online: Educational Advocacy, Older Youth & LGBTQ Youth
Over this next year our team will be converting two more in-person sessions (sessions four and six) into immersive e-learning courses, with a goal of making four out of the eight pre-service sessions accessible online. We hope that these courses will help ensure at-home learning is cohesively, effectively and fully aligned with the comprehensive pre-service training curriculum.
If you’d like to talk through incorporating these e-learning courses into your pre-service package, we are here to support you in any way we can. Please reach out to training@texascasa.org with any questions.
