Due to the historic Winter Storm Uri, CASA Day at the Capitol did not go the way any of us expected, but we are still making an impact and ensuring CASA’s voice is heard!
Many who had planned to participate in our virtual Capitol Day on Feb. 16-17 were not able to—meetings with legislators were canceled or rescheduled, while snow, freezing temperatures and power outages pummeled the state.
However, we encourage everyone to reconnect with their legislators! Below are some ways CASA advocates can still participate in CASA Day at the Capitol in the coming days.
- Watch the training webinar and our welcome message from Texas CASA CEO Vicki Spriggs if you missed them,
- Reschedule meetings with your legislators and share the information with our Public Policy team at firstname.lastname@example.org, and
- Continue to make CASA’s presence known statewide by using our Capitol Day Zoom backgrounds, Facebook frames and social media toolkit!
Everything you need to participate in Capitol Day is available on the event webpage.
Those of us who had power on Feb. 17 blasted the CASA message on social media and held meetings with legislators to ensure they understand the work of CASA and our legislative priorities. Legislative advocates from CASA of the Sabine Neches Region and Texas CASA’s Public Policy team were fortunate to be able to meet with Speaker of the House Dade Phelan. The group discussed the CASA mission and vision, and how we can work together to create better outcomes for children and families in the child welfare system.
We hope you are safe, well and warm. Thank you for your dedication to CASA and the children and families we serve!
Thank you to our CASA Day at the Capitol sponsor!
