Congressman Pete Gallego Joins Texas CASA Board of Directors
Nos complace dar la bienvenida a Pete Gallego to our board of directors!
With a lengthy career as an attorney and legislator, Gallego is well versed on border, immigration, criminal justice and family law issues. A native of Alpine, Texas, Gallego spent a combined 24 years in public service as a member of the Texas Legislature and United States Congress.
Gallego will chair our public policy committee, offering his leadership and insight to help Texas CASA continue making a positive difference for children and families at the statewide level.
“Texas CASA is honored to have Congressman Pete Gallego join our governing board,” said Vicki Spriggs, CEO. “His experience as both a state and U.S. legislator, his legal expertise and his dedication to service are invaluable.”
A trailblazer, Gallego was the first Latino legislator elected to serve the rural border counties of Far West Texas, the first (thus far the only) freshman legislator and first ethnic minority elected to chair the House Democratic Caucus, and the only small town Far West Texan ever elected to Congress from a district including the much larger communities of El Paso and San Antonio. More recently, Gallego also became the first graduate of Sul Ross State University to serve as the University’s president.
A trained mediator, Gallego holds a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Texas School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross State University. He and his wife, María Elena, are the parents of one son, Nicolás Miguel.
