Restorative Practices for Child Welfare Professionals Training

CHANGE 1, a nonprofit working with foster youth to realize their full potential, will be hosting the second installation of their dynamic and practical training for using Restorative Practices in Child Welfare on June 6-7, 2023!

The new training called Paradigm Shift aims to interrupt and lessen the cycle of trauma that occurs for children, youth and families. The material in this training is a vital form of justice. In this context, CHANGE 1 refers to “justice” as the justice of being heard, seen and valued; that each person’s voice and perspective are important and needed.

This training asks child welfare professionals to “do business differently.” Restorative Practices focuses on strengthening and/or restoring relationships when harm and conflict have occurred. This training will help assist the community of child welfare professionals in developing a change in mindset, which leads to a change in the quality of interactions, and therefore, a kinder, more compassionate way to support people in times of chaos, crisis, grief, trauma and pain.

This training is geared towards:

  • Child Welfare Professionals
  • Child Placing Agencies (CPA)
  • Judges and Attorneys
  • Foster and Adoptive Parents
  • System-involved Youth and Parents
  • Outreach Workers
  • Law Enforcement
  • School Staff
  • Mental Health Professionals
  • Community Agencies
  • Department of Family and Protective Services Staff (DFPS)
  • Licensed Chemical Dependency and Certified Substance Abuse Counselors

…and any individual who works in or with the Child Welfare system that wants to learn about the foundations of peace, conflict and repair work, effective facilitation and their own response to escalated situations.
