Thalia Wilson is the Website Development & Communications Specialist at Texas CASA. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication design from the University of North Texas, where she concentrated in User Experience Design and minored in Art History and Advertising. While at UNT, Thalia served as a resident assistant for three years and worked as a designer for the university’s dining social media. Outside of work, Thalia enjoys reading, going for runs, baking, and serving in the children’s ministry at her church.

Háblenos de usted y de lo que le llevó a trabajar en el ámbito del bienestar infantil.

I’ve always had a heart for seeing children thrive. Growing up, my grandma ran an at-home daycare, and I spent a lot of time helping her care for the kids there. That experience sparked an early love for helping children and supporting their growth. Throughout the years, I’ve also enjoyed serving in the children’s ministry at my church, which continued to strengthen my passion for helping young people feel valued and encouraged. I truly believe that every child deserves to grow up in a caring and loving environment where they feel safe and supported. Being able to contribute to that mission, even in a small way, is incredibly meaningful to me.

¿Cuánto tiempo lleva trabajando para CASA Texas y cómo se involucró en la misión de CASA?

I’ve worked at Texas CASA full-time for a year, but I first got involved with the organization as a website design intern. Before starting my internship, I didn’t know very much about Texas CASA, but I quickly learned about the impact of the organization and grew to love the mission. As I became more familiar with the work CASA programs do across the state, it was incredibly meaningful to see how my technical and design skills could contribute to such an important cause. Being able to use those skills to support children and families made the work feel especially fulfilling and aligned with my personal values. I also love when I tell people that I work at Texas CASA, and they immediately share a positive story or connection they have with CASA.

In my role, I not only support Texas CASA and local programs with their website needs, but I also have the opportunity to equip programs with the tools and knowledge to manage their websites confidently and effectively. I provide hands-on support through website updates, troubleshooting, and personalized training for programs that need additional guidance. The website tutorial resource I developed offers step-by-step video tutorials that guide local CASA programs through editing and maintaining their websites. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is helping others feel more comfortable and empowered using their own platforms.

I’ve also enjoyed contributing to Texas CASA’s newsletters, which gives me a creative outlet while helping keep programs informed and connected. Through this work, I’m able to share important updates and highlight resources, ensuring programs stay up to date with what’s happening within Texas CASA.

How does your personal experience impact your work at Texas CASA?

I’ve always had a heart for helping children feel safe, seen, and supported, which is what initially drew me to Texas CASA’s mission. That passion became even more personal through my close relationship with my best friend and her family. My best friend and her husband adopted her daughter after her mother served as her kinship caregiver, and I’ve had the privilege of watching her daughter grow, thrive, and truly step into who she’s meant to be with the support of a loving family and her CASA volunteer.

Hearing my friend share how impactful her daughter’s CASA was during different stages of her life gave me a deeper understanding of the role CASA volunteers play. Their story put a real, personal perspective to the mission and reminded me that behind every website update, newsletter, or resource I help create, there are children and families whose lives are being directly impacted. That connection motivates me to approach my work with intention and care, knowing that even behind-the-scenes support contributes to something much bigger.

¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de su trabajo?

One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to work alongside people who are truly passionate about what they do and deeply committed to helping others. From the very beginning of my internship, everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive, which made it easy to feel connected and part of the team.

I also love being able to support local programs by helping solve their technology needs. Whether it’s troubleshooting an issue or providing guidance, it’s rewarding to know that I can help make their work a little easier and give them some relief in their day-to-day responsibilities.
