Election Reminders & Tips for Engaging Legislators
As we approach the 89th Legislative Session, it is important for the CASA network to know who will be representing you at the Texas State Capitol in 2025. It is also crucial to be aware of the upcoming election, as representation in your area may change. In November, you will have the chance to vote for your local, state and federal officials, including the president. Early voting for the November General Election will start on October 21, 2024, and October 25, 2024 is the last day for counties to receive mail-in ballot requests. Election Day will be on November 5, 2024. You can find a list of the names on the ballot in your area in this Texas Voter Guide.
Here are some tips for engaging with your legislators and their staff after the election:
- Invite them to a CASA swearing-in ceremony.
- Invite them to local CASA events, like Back-to-School events or Holiday Gift Wrapping events.
- Invite them to attend a court hearing with a local CASA advocate.
- Invite them to tour your local CASA office.
Engaging with your legislators and their staff is important for building strong relationships that go beyond legislative sessions. The voice of a CASA volunteer is unique because volunteers have valuable experience working with children and stakeholders in the system without financial incentives that may influence their judgment. CASA is able to provide a voice for children in care who cannot advocate for themselves. By sharing your CASA stories from your legislators’ districts, you can build meaningful connections with legislators and staff to ensure that the voices of the children and families served by the CASA network are always heard at the Texas State Capitol.
