Two STAR Zooms in April and In-Person Training May 16-17

Understanding the DFPS Daycare Program in time for Summer Camp. Monday, April 15, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Carol Morin and Jaqueline Bingham from the DFPS Daycare Program will join us to share the daycare authorization process and information regarding upcoming summer daycare and camp plans for children in care. Did you know that all families involved in the child welfare system may qualify for the DFPS daycare program, not just children and youth placed in a foster care placement? Bring your questions and join us!

Local Program Panel: The Supervisors’ Role in Volunteer Retention. Monday, April 29, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

STAR will review the new HHSC Outcomes and host a Local Program Panel to share their best volunteer retention practices. Supervisors are key to volunteer retention and you won’t want to miss out on hearing some best practices from your peers.

Both of these Zooms qualify for staff continuing education required by CASA Standards. STAR Zoom will break in May and return in June!

STAR In-Person Training in May

We are welcoming back guest presenter, Dr. Cynthia Lietz. Dr. Lietz is a professor and Dean at Arizona State University and the creator of the Strengths-Based Supervision (SBS) model and has adapted the SBS model specifically for CASA Advocate Supervisors.

The SBS training is focused on supervisory and leadership skills for Advocate Supervisors. You will have many opportunities to connect and learn from your peers over the day and a half of training!

Topics will include:

  • Three roles of the supervisor
  • Courageous conversations
  • Family-centered practices
  • Crisis vs in-depth supervision
  • Critical thinking
  • Facilitation Microskills

Please follow the registration link for event details and lodging information. Registration fee is $50. Capacity is limited. The deadline for the May training in San Antonio is April 12th.  The deadline for the hotel group rate, where the training will be held, is April 15th.

This is the same training we provided last year, and while supervisors are welcome to return for a refresher, it will be the same content. We will not offer a virtual option this year. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Briggs at lbriggs@texascasa.org. This will be a great learning experience and we’ll have fun, too! We hope to see you there!  😊
