Voices for Children’s Recruitment, Outreach & Advocacy Representatives program (VFC ROAR) is a volunteer-match program for individuals seeking short-term projects. The ROAR program consists of a team of volunteers & community partners dedicated to helping Voices for Children CASA with community engagement, child abuse awareness/prevention, and related activities.
Although ROAR volunteers do not undergo the 30 hours of training and additional requirements of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers, they still need to complete a Volunteer Interest Survey and attend a one-hour Information Session.
VFC ROAR offers community members short- and long-term volunteer opportunities. ROAR volunteers track their time and provide feedback about their experience by using the Daily Time Tracker.
This is what the Recruitment and Training Coordinator, CJ Spencer, had to say about the program:
“VFC ROAR started as a pilot program in March 2023. This is still a ‘new’ program, so we’re always looking for ways to improve. We use the CASA Guiding Principles and The Art of Recruitment Volunteer Guidebook, but we also follow Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) and Toyota Lean principles. Because of these standards, ROAR provides a foundation that can easily be adopted by and scaled to meet the unique needs of each program.
We still have a long way to go, we’re in Phase I (data compilation). But we strongly believe that we’ll find the right ROAR volunteers with the right skill sets (and/or Texas A&M University students) to help us move into the next phase of our ROAR journey. Phase II involves data analysis. In either case, we’re excited!
