CASA Day at the Capitol 2025

casa day at the capitol 2025

On March 27, 2025, the CASA network rallied at the Texas State Capitol for CASA Day at the Capitol. The event brought together more than 280 members from 54 of the CASA programs from across the state to meet with lawmakers about Texas CASA’s legislative priorities and funding.

In addition to over 158 meetings with legislators and their offices, the day included both Senate and House Resolutions by Representative John Lujan and Senator Tan Parker celebrating the CASA network’s contributions.

In the House, Representative Lujan honored every CASA volunteer for advocating for children in the foster care system with House Resolution 612. “Across Texas, CASA is a critical force for positive change. The work they do in the courtroom and in the lives of these children is truly remarkable,” said Rep. Lujan. He went on to say how he and his wife are former CASA volunteers and how the work CASA does is vital. After the resolution’s introduction, Representative Salman Bhojani recognized the resolution and expressed his deepest gratitude to the CASA volunteers and staff.

Senator Parker recognized CASA Day at the Capitol with Senate Resolution 311. He said it was an honor to recognize the Court Appointed Special Advocates network at CASA Day at the Capitol. “Texas CASA has been a guiding light for children in foster care since 1979. Through the tireless efforts of local volunteers, CASA has expanded its reach and today serves children and families in 220 of Texas’ 254 counties. This work is not only inspiring, it is absolutely essential,” said Senator Parker. After the resolution’s introduction, Senator Angela Paxton, Senator Kevin Sparks, Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, Senator José Menéndez, Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Senator Donna Campbell also gave their thanks to CASA volunteers’ advocacy. “CASA is one of those entities that is the best part of our communities,” said Senator Kevin Sparks. “They (CASA) are committed to strengthening the connections and wellbeing of children in foster care one family at a time,” said Senator Donna Campbell.

We are truly thankful to all of the CASA volunteers, staff and board members who showed up at the Texas Capitol ready to advocate for the mission of CASA and the children and families we serve. Your dedication and fierce support of the children in foster care is remarkable and inspiring. In addition to the CASA network who prove every day to be tireless advocates for children and families, we want to thank the legislators and staffers for taking the time to meet with us and for helping to amplify the CASA mission. We couldn’t do this work without you.
