Specialized Advocacy

Texas CASA's Specialized Advocacy initiatives exist to give an individualized, best-interest CASA volunteer court appointment for children and youth involved in cases outside the scope of a traditional SAPCR (Suit Affecting the Parent Child Relationship) case. Specialized Advocacy initiatives include: Dual-Status Advocacy, Justice-Involved Youth, Court-Ordered Services, Extended Care, among others. Please note that some of these Specialized Advocacy court appointments may require a Waiver from Texas CASA. Contact amcdonnell@texascasa.org with any questions.

Supporting Dual-Status Youth

In this episode of The Fix, Texas CASA CEO Vicki Spriggs discusses how advocates can support dual-status youth—youth involved in both foster care and juvenile justice—by facilitating communication between the two systems.

All Specialized Advocacy Resources

Dual-Status Advocacy

Dual-status youth are children who are involved in both the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

Court-Ordered Services Advocacy

Court-Ordered Services is advocacy for children and families involved with the Child Welfare System, but prior to the child being removed in a SAPCR Case. This advocacy does require a waiver and is not included in the funding model for local CASA programs.

Extended Foster Care Advocacy

Extended Foster Care (EFC) allows eligible young adults who turn 18 in foster care to voluntarily remain in a structured, supportive environment while transitioning into adulthood.
