Keeping the CASA Momentum

I have a simple question for you: will you talk to someone about CASA today?

Last year, the local CASA programs collectively served about 60% of the more than 45,800 children and youth in our state’s foster care system. We want to grow to serve every child in foster care in Texas, and I believe that one day, we will—but we need your help to get there.

We know that word of mouth is one of the most powerful recruitment tools. People are far more likely to join a movement when they hear about it from someone they trust. We all have friends, family members and other loved ones who would make phenomenal CASA volunteers—people with strength, compassion, determination and a heart for service.

If you’re not sure how to start the conversation, we’ve made it easy for you! Use our Nominate A CASA Volunteer form. All you have to do is enter their name and email address. We will send them information on becoming a CASA volunteer and let them know you think they can make a difference in the life of a child.

What if the person you’re thinking of isn’t quite ready to be a CASA volunteer? Or what if they’re under the required age of 21? No problem! Many of the local CASA programs have other volunteer opportunities. You can also ask them to join you in raising awareness in their own circle of friends and family about CASA, foster care, and the children and families who need support. And of course, we’re always in need of donations to support our work. You can learn more on our Ways to Give page.

Even with the recruitment efforts of the local CASA programs and our statewide awareness campaign, so often, the biggest reason people become a volunteer is still word of mouth or that they were asked. That’s why we need you. You have the power to keep the CASA momentum moving forward.

Now is the time. If you know someone who has what it takes to be a CASA volunteer, let them know! The children can’t wait, so why would you?
