Children and Youth Missing from DFPS Conservatorship & Human Trafficking Data Report from the Department of Family and Protective Services
This report details both the number of children who are missing from the children’s substitute care provider as well as the number of children who were victims of human trafficking while in the managing conservatorship of DFPS in FY 2023. Additionally, this report includes data regarding:
- Whether a child who went missing was a victim of human trafficking
- Whether the managing conservatorship of DFPS is temporary or permanent
- The type of substitute care in which the child is placed
- The child’s county of residence, sex, age, race, and ethnicity
The children in this report are marked with missing events from care if the child or youth:
- Runs away from care
- Is abducted by a known or unknown person
- Is otherwise absent from care with no known location
Knowing how to best advocate for young people who have been or are at risk of being trafficked is essential for CASA volunteers, and the programs who support them. Texas CASA has many resources available for local CASA programs to build relationships with community stakeholders working within the anti-child trafficking space, as well as to ensure a survivor-centered advocacy approach.
