STAR Reminders

Our STAR Zoom webinar series will resume in January. This holiday season, the STAR team is grateful for the volunteer supervisors across the state and their tireless commitment to best interest CASA advocacy for every child in foster care! Volunteer supervisors, if you need a little support with coaching volunteers through this busy season, or are looking for a resource to support volunteer management and best interest advocacy, check out the resources designed specifically for your role on the Texas CASA Program Portal STAR page. Take a look and if you can’t find what you are looking for, please let us know. lbriggs@texascasa.org

If the holidays provide you or your volunteers with a little down time, now is a great time to listen to the CASA on the Go: Continuing Education for CASA Volunteers Podcasts. In September, Margaret Halpin sat down with the deeply inspiring Shelton Pellum who shares his lived experience in foster care including why youth voice matters in decision-making, what true belonging and connectedness mean for youth in care, and what young people need most from the adults who walk alongside them.

Don’t wait till December!

As we near the close of 2025, volunteer supervisors are responsible for checking in on the required 12 hours of continuing education required each year for all CASA staff and volunteers. Both the trainings and webinars found on the STAR Program Portal Page and each of the wonderful CASA on the Go Podcasts meet the requirements for continuing education for both CASA staff and volunteers. If you are looking for additional continuing education topics and training to round out 2025, please check out the Texas CASA Learning Center or CFE Program Portal page for additional continuing education opportunities.
