ACT Advocacy Training Recommendation for Youth and CASA Volunteers
“Sentinels,” developed by Unbound Now, is a prevention-focused curriculum aimed at combating child trafficking. It includes five instructional videos along with complementary activities. The videos and activities are designed to empower young people to identify and avoid potential exploitation while also encouraging them to create a positive impact in their communities. This curriculum is youth-centered, trauma-informed, and used in school settings. CASA volunteers can watch the short videos with the youth and utilize the discussion prompts.
The curriculum strives to build foundational knowledge of trafficking risks and helps CASA volunteers and staff understand:
- What child sex and labor trafficking look like (including misconceptions)
- Risk factors (e.g., prior abuse/neglect, running away, placement instability, lack of supportive adults)
- Vulnerability of youth in foster care, especially those in extended foster care or justice-involved youth
