August CASA Story Activation Update

Welcome to CASA Story’s August Activation update! It’s been such a joy to see your programs sharing their stories of impact from every corner of Texas. Watching the CASA Story come to life across the state has been inspiring, and it’s all because of your dedication and hard work.

In September, we’ll take a brief pause from releasing new campaign materials as we thoughtfully align the CASA Story resources with our new legislative priorities (more info below). This strategic refresh will ensure you have the strongest, most effective tools to engage elected officials and champion CASA’s impact.

Your next activation update will arrive in October. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue using the current CASA Story one-pager and talking points as you meet with your elected officials over the next two months. Don’t forget they’re customizable! Every conversation you have helps elevate the voices of the children and families we serve and strengthens our collective advocacy across Texas.

New Media Resources

You’ll find August social media posts (4) and the media alert on the CASA Story Program Portal. This month is centered on the spirit of National Nonprofit Day on August 17. It celebrates the people that make this work possible — the staff who show up every day to make a difference in the lives of children and families in any role or task they perform. Pitch ideas include:

  • Meet the people behind your local CASA program and hear their personal stories that inspire them to dedicate their careers to child advocacy
  • Meet a CASA volunteer and local CASA program leader to learn how they’re supporting children impacted by the child welfare system in our community.
  • State of Child Welfare in Texas (Texas CASA is available for interviews in person or virtually, based on location.)

Legislative Priorities Announced at August ED/PD Meeting

Our Public Policy Director Ana O’Quin will officially launch Texas CASA’s legislative priorities for the 90th Legislative Session at the August 21st ED/PD meeting. More details to come.

Mark Your Calendar: Policy Institute at the Texas CASA Conference

This year, the Public Policy Team will share our legislative priorities at Texas CASA’s annual conference, instead of our traditional pre-session tour across Texas. The session takes place on Wednesday, 9/9  from 1pm-4:30pm. This meeting is an important opportunity to learn about our legislative strategy and how local CASA programs can play a critical role in advancing these priorities throughout the 90th session. Registration for the conference closes August 12th.

Please ensure that the member of your program who leads legislative advocacy — whether your LAT Chair or another policy lead — is registered to attend this important session. If you can’t make it, the team will host live and recorded virtual trainings, plus office hours, to equip and support your advocacy efforts throughout the legislative session.

Pre-Session Visit Reminder + Survey

After a meeting, please complete the legislative visit survey so we can track our collective outreach, identify gaps, and strengthen our statewide advocacy strategy.

Share Your Story

We’d love to highlight your stories of impact throughout the CASA Story campaign. Please email the following types of stories to communications@texascasa.org.

Feedback Opportunity: CASA Story Communication Resources

It’s not too late to share your feedback on the April, May, June, and July communication resources. Your input will help us as we plan for fall CASA Story materials.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the volunteers and children you serve. We’re truly inspired by the work you do every day.
