NEWS RELEASE: Texas CASA Hosts Hundreds of Volunteers from Across Texas at 2025 CASA Day at the Capitol

AUSTIN, Texas – Hundreds of CASA volunteers from across Texas will gather at the Capitol on the morning of March 27, 2025, for CASA Day at the Capitol. Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will mobilize volunteers, staff and community members to meet with legislators and confront the urgent challenges facing the child welfare system. Their message is clear: children in foster care aren’t just statistics — they’re real children with real needs.
“Advocacy has always been at the heart of CASA’s mission,” said Texas CASA CEO Vicki Spriggs. “CASA Day at the Capitol is our opportunity to amplify our message and show legislators that we are a united force for change.”
Texas CASA collaborates with various state agencies as well as legislators, judges and child welfare stakeholders to support public policies that focus on improving outcomes for children and families. Texas CASA works in partnership with local CASA programs to set its legislative priorities — ensuring the voices of local staff and volunteers across Texas are included in the conversation.
Texas CASA’s policy priorities for the 89th Legislative Session include supporting funding and legislation related to family preservation, supporting kinship families, improving services for older youth experiencing and exiting foster care, providing children access to safe and stable placements and more. The work is ongoing because, when one session ends, planning priorities for the next session begins
“Volunteers help create a vital bridge between their communities and the legislative process,” said Public Policy Director Sarah Crockett. “Their presence at Capitol Day not only strengthens the voice of CASA and the children we serve, but also helps legislators understand the real-world impact of the bills that Texas CASA is hoping to advance,” Crockett added.
Texas CASA’s 2023 CASA Day at the Capitol during the 88th Legislative Session brought together more than 280 members from 48 of the statewide CASA programs who engaged in over 145 meetings with legislators and their offices.

About Texas CASA
Established in 1989, Texas CASA’s mission is to support local CASA programs with training, community awareness, resources and public policy to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families in Texas. We are the statewide membership association for all local CASA programs. In this role, we support the CASA network by serving as the administrator of state and federal funds, setting and monitoring standards, providing training, leading a statewide volunteer recruitment campaign, advocating for public policy and more. Texas CASA is committed to partnering with statewide stakeholders and the CASA network to elevate best practices when working with children and families.
Collectively, the local CASA programs serve the majority of Texas’ 254 counties. As integral members of their respective communities, they recruit, train, supervise and support court-appointed volunteers to advocate for the best interest of children. Local programs also coordinate and collaborate with other service providers who share the mission of supporting Texas families.
